We are now deeply entrenched in Vegan MoFo III and I have turned my attention to snacks.
I came across this recipe for Soda Bread Scones, adapted from Vegetarian Times, at Cook’s Hideout a while back. I was looking for something quick and easy and scone-y and this was it. These rustic scones come together in a flash and they’re delicious – perfect for a snack, breakfast or brunch, or anytime you feel like having jam and tea. And if you’re me, that’s fairly often.
I’ve made these using both whole-wheat pastry flour and whole spelt flour and they’re awesome either way.
And hey, Pavani of Cook’s Hideout is also taking part in Vegan Mofo III, so check her site out! She has a bunch of delicious savoury recipes posted, like Cabbage Leek Curry, mmmm.

Scones are the bomb. Are these sweet or no?

Hi Nora! These scones are not really sweet – I’d say they’re more neutral in flavour. The sweetness comes more from the raisins and the sprinkling of raw sugar on the tops.

Perfect timing, as I was on the lookout these days for a quick and easy scone recipe using stuff I always have on hand. This one totally fits the bill! Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Do you think I could substitute chocolate chips for raisins (I guess I’d need to leave out the cinnamon)?

Hi Harriet! I think adding chocolate chips is a grand idea! and totally up to you whether you want to keep the cinnamon in with the chocolate or not – I find those two flavours can be lovely together :)
